By at least one measure, local construction is soaring.
BidClerk, a Chicago-based construction data provider, says that third quarter New York Metro Area data showed a whopping 61.3% increase in new construction projects “that were actively bidding” over the year ago number.
The company releases the BidClerk Construction Index, which reports that private construction increased 9.0%, and public construction was “strongly positive,” increasing 79.7%.
BidClerk says that third quarter 2013 “total project value” was $5.5 billion, up from $5.3 billion in the second quarter.
Specifically, BidClerk cited work on a new $100 million Newark, N.J., headquarters construction project for BioTrial, a pharmaceutical research firm.
The BidClerk Construction Index study covered New York City, Northern New Jersey, and Long Island.
